PPF vs ceramic coating, wax and vinyl.
A car-care guide
PPF protects paint with a physical film; ceramic coating adds gloss and makes washing easier.
General guidance from 1.618 Dettagli Auto, Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi.
Different purposes
The difference between PPF and ceramic coating
PPF is a physical covering over the paint, while ceramic coating is a liquid-applied surface treatment. Film takes stone chips and light scratches in place of the covered paint. Coating focuses on the finish and how easily the treated surface can be washed.
Choose between them by the problem you want to address. Chips, appearance, panel coverage and ongoing care lead to different proposals, rather than one treatment winning every comparison.
Start with the concern that brought you here. If chips on particular panels matter most, begin with a coverage discussion. If gloss and routine cleaning are your priorities, compare the suitable coating products and included preparation.
Our PPF service and ceramic coating service cover those separate discussions. At our C-32, Lajpat Nagar II studio, you agree the PPF product, finish and coverage first. PPF preparation and installation are included; GST is extra.

Compare proposals
PPF versus coating at a glance
Compare the material, intended benefit, covered surfaces and included work before comparing prices. The actual products matter more than a broad package label. Put each proposal beside the other with the same vehicle and paint condition in mind.
A product warranty sets its own conditions and remedies. It does not by itself establish installation-support terms or the film’s remaining useful life.

Physical covering
Choose PPF for stone-chip protection
PPF is the relevant choice when you want a physical covering against stone chips and light scratches. Start by naming the panels you want protected. A front package and full-body proposal need explicit panel lists so the coverage is clear.
Good film can heal fine surface marks with heat. That feature concerns light marks in the film’s surface. Film will not stop every chip, repair damaged paint or heal a deep cut, torn film or dent.
Our film list includes Garware, LLumar and XPEL. Compare the actual product and finish alongside the panel scope. Explain any previous paintwork or existing defects before the preparation plan is agreed, and keep additional work visible in the quotation.

Product properties
Choose coating for gloss and easier washing
Ceramic coating suits a discussion focused on gloss, water behaviour and easier routine washing. The proposed product needs to suit the actual surface and desired finish. Use coating benefits and maintenance to explore that side of the decision.
Coating will not stop chips, make the car scratch-proof or remove existing swirls. Correcting existing marks is separate work from applying the coating.
The coating maker’s instructions establish suitability for the actual paint, trim or fitted film. Suitability for one surface does not establish suitability for the others; washing products and initial waiting instructions are product-specific too.
Together or separate
Can ceramic coating go over PPF?
Ceramic coating can go over PPF when the exact film and coating are compatible. Establish the product pair and manufacturer instructions before approving both stages. A coating-over-film proposal needs its own surface list and purpose.
The installation order matters too. An existing ceramic coating can affect film adhesion. Mention the coating before the preparation plan is settled, even if it was applied elsewhere.
A combined proposal should show where each treatment goes and which care instructions apply. It can also be compared with film alone or coating alone. Choose the combination because it addresses your priorities, rather than because the package has more stages.

| Combination detail | Agreed proposal |
|---|---|
| Film and finish | Agree the exact film reference and finish before approving the coverage plan. |
| Compatible coating | Identify the proposed coating and check its instructions against the selected film or other intended surface. |
| Panels for each stage | List the panels receiving film and the surfaces receiving coating separately, including any overlap. |
| Care and support | Agree product-specific care instructions, applicable written terms and the contact for a concern about either stage. |
Compatible care
Where wax fits beside film and coating
Wax is a surface-care treatment, not a physical barrier against stone chips. On coated or film-covered panels, use it only where the fitted product’s care instructions allow it.
Colour and material
Is vinyl wrap the same as PPF?
Vinyl wrap and PPF are separate material choices, so identify the product before comparing their intended use. A colour-change proposal starts with the appearance you want. A protection proposal starts with the covering and panels required for that purpose.
Colour alone cannot identify a film’s construction; the material specification and sample describe different parts of the choice. For a colour change, check applicable approval or registration requirements with the relevant authority.
Disclose existing wraps or graphics before adding another layer. Removing film over graphics can affect the graphic underneath. Include the actual substrate and removal questions in the assessment before agreeing to the proposed work.

Installed scope
Compare installed PPF and coating prices
Installed PPF and coating prices cover different work. PPF provides a fitted physical film; coating treats suitable surfaces for gloss and easier care. Compare the exact products, preparation and treated panels, not a film-roll price against a coating-bottle price.
Our PPF price guide and ceramic coating price guide explain those cost factors. Selected-panel and full-body film jobs differ in coverage; a coating quote with paint correction includes work that an application-only quote does not.
Your decision
Choose the treatment for your main priority
Choose the least complicated proposal that addresses the concern you started with. That could mean selected film coverage, a suitable coating or a compatible combination. Ordinary care without an additional treatment is also an option to consider.
Write the priority beside the proposal: physical covering, appearance, easier washing or colour change. This helps separate useful work from extras you did not need. The final product, scope and care plan should make sense together.
If coating names are making the choice harder, use ceramic, graphene and teflon compared. Return to exact products rather than a ranking of labels. Keep the agreed quotation and instructions so future care decisions start from what is actually on the car.

A few answers
Questions before deciding
Is PPF better than ceramic coating?
PPF is the relevant discussion for physical chip protection. Coating focuses on gloss and easier washing. Choose for your priority and the surfaces involved.
How do I choose coating for PPF?
Use the exact film name and finish to check the proposed coating’s compatibility. Keep the relevant instructions with the agreed scope.
What if my car is already coated?
Tell the studio which product was applied and when, if known. The existing treatment belongs in the surface assessment before film is specified.
What does a combined proposal need?
It needs a compatible film and coating, with the treated surfaces identified separately. The maker instructions determine suitability and application sequence; a combined label alone does not establish either.
Should I add wax afterwards?
Follow the instructions for the actual installed products. Any extra care step should have a defined surface and purpose.
How do I compare a colour wrap?
Start with the identified material, sample and intended application. Then compare the finish, panel list and applicable written terms.
Message the studio with your car model and the finish or work you want to discuss.
